A pedestrian crossing Main Street at 2nd Avenue was hit in the crosswalk shortly before 11am this morning.
According to Ferndale Police Lieutenant Matt Huffman, a car turning left onto Main Street from southbound 2nd Avenue struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk. According to witnesses nearby, it appeared the victim was crossing south to north and landed in the eastbound lane about 10-feet from the crosswalk after the collision.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Fire Chief Dean Crosswhite said the victim transported ALS (advanced life support) to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Huffman said the driver was issued an infraction for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
