Whatcom County Fire District 7 fire and aid units responded to a call of a detached garage fire in the 6300 block of Malloy Road (between Thornton Street and Aldergrove Road) around midnight last night. Division Chief Ben Boyko said the home owner reported hearing popping outside and found fire coming out of the garage window. “He called 911 and was able to apply some water on it with a garden hose,” Boyko said in an email.

“We were able to knock the fire down in the office area of the shop and forced entry to the shop were the fire spread by the time we arrived. Shop and contents had extensive fire, heat and smoke damage,” according to Boyko.

The Whatcom County Fire Marshal was dispatched to investigate the cause of the fire. No information regarding the results of that investigation was available at the time of this story.

No injuries were reported and no one was displaced as a result of the fire.
