Overnight Ferndale house fire requires repeat visits by firefighters

Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) Firefighters were called out to a house fire on the 1400 block of Falcon Lane at 1:20am this morning, June 3rd. Initial reports were flames were showing through the walls of the 2-story structure.

Firefighters reported seeing flames showing from the 2nd floor when they arrived. 4 fire engines, 4 tenders and a medic unit responded to the fire.

According to WCFD7 Division Chief Ben Boyko, the fire began near a chimney connected to a wood stove and all occupants were able to get out safely. The property owners remained nearby to keep an eye on the property.

About 5:15am this morning, 4 fire engines, 2 tenders and 2 medic units were dispatched to the same address for reports of flames showing from the 2nd floor.

According to radio transmissions, firefighters spent about 3 hours total in offensive mode battling the persistent fire. Boyko noted there were lots of “nooks and crannies” they had to deal with in the older house. According the Whatcom County Assessor’s records, the house was built in 1909.

There were no reports of injuries. Whatcom County Fire Marshal was dispatched to investigate the cause of the fire.
