WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers were dispatched to 2 crashes within 30 minutes of each other in Whatcom County around midnight last night.
WSP troopers were dispatched April 1st at about 11:45pm due to a report of an overturned semi-truck and trailer blocking the northbound I-5 on-ramp from D Street in Blaine.
WSP Trooper Rocky Oliphant said the truck was hauling live crab which required being offloaded to another truck.
Oliphant said no other vehicles were involved and the driver received a ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.
Washington State Department of Transportation reported the on-ramp was cleared and reopened shortly after 4am.
WSP troopers were later dispatched April 2nd at about 12:15am due to a report of a crash in the northbound lanes of I-5 south of the Portal Way interchange.
Oliphant said a vehicle had left the roadway striking the guardrail and damaging 7 guardrail posts. The vehicle lost a wheel which was then struck by a passing semi-truck.
The driver of the vehicle that crashed sustained minor injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence, according to Oliphant. The semi-truck was able to be driven away.
