Old Settlers Picnic organizers accidentally sent out event cancellation notices to hundreds

FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Old Settlers events include grand and junior parades down Main Street in Ferndale along with a picnic in Ferndale’s Pioneer Park that includes entertainment along with food and craft vendors. So when hundreds of Facebook users received a notice, it was a bit of a shock according to Whatcom County Old Settlers Association President Lynda Lucas.

Lucas told Whatcom News that some minor editing was being done to an event listing on Facebook when there was a misstep that led to events being listed as cancelled on the social media website. This in turn resulted in immediately notifying Facebook users who had been following the events.

Lucas said they also immediately began receiving inquiries asking why the events had been cancelled. Realizing the error, Lucas restored the events to their “not cancelled” status and began trying to explain how, contrary to what Facebook had told people, the events were still scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday of the last weekend of July as had been done for over 125 years.
