It was just a few days ago the Ferndale area geared up for what ended up being less than expected flooding after heavy mountain and local rain. Forecasters are now expecting even higher Nooksack River levels in the Ferndale area Monday.
The current river level forecast expects the river to crest about a half-foot higher than the 18-foot mark Monday morning. This would be more than 2 feet higher than the last round of river flooding when the river crested Tuesday morning.
The official “Minor Flood Stage” begins at the 18-foot mark. Historically, low lying roads near the river are closed including Slater Road, Marine Drive, Ferndale Road and Barrett/Paradise Roads by the time the river reaches this level. Water will begin topping the river’s banks at many points including Hovander Homestead Park and VanderYacht Park as well.
River level forecasts can change quickly and drivers and property owners are advised to monitor the latest forecast.
