WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Forecasters with the National Weather Service Seattle office today issued areal flood warnings effective through noon tomorrow, Monday, January 29th.
A flood warning for the east county was issued shortly after noon.
Flood water in the Nooksack River is, or is expected to, overflow its banks near Everson. The overflow of flood waters will result in flooding along an old Nooksack River overflow drainage, including Johnson Creek, from Everson north toward Sumas and the Canadian border. How far the flooding extends northward, and whether it reaches Sumas, will depend on how high the Nooksack River goes overbank at Everson and for how long.
At 1214 PM PST, gauge reports indicated heavy rain. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area.

At 20.0 feet, the river will flood additional areas within the City of Ferndale including low-lying residential areas and roads including Washington Street, Portal Way and Second
