Nooksack River at Ferndale forecast to reach flood stage Thursday

The current forecast for the Nooksack River level at Ferndale expects the river to crest Thursday at about the 17-foot mark. Several wet weather systems are expected to begin arriving late today, November 2nd, resulting in rain and gusty winds locally while bringing heavy rains to the mountains.

According to National Weather Service forecasters, 2 to 3 inches of rainfall is expect in the north Cascade Mountains Tuesday and another 1 to 3 inches later in the week.

The 17-foot mark is below the official Minor Flood Stage range of 18 to 20 feet but within the new official Action Flood Stage range of 15 to 18 feet.

The following roads have historically been impacted and closed after the river level passes the 15-foot mark:

  • Barrett Road/Paradise Road
  • Ferndale Road between Marine Drive and Slater Road
  • Ferndale Road between Slater Road and Ulrich Road
  • Marine Drive between Lummi Shore Road/Drive and Rural Avenue

There is an increased potential for closing Slater Road after the river passes the 17-foot mark.
