No, Ferndale City Hall was not on fire

FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the Ferndale City Hall building on Main Street in Ferndale on Monday, August 1st about 6:50pm due to a report of visible smoke coming from the building.

The initial firefighters at the scene headed to the city hall building but were quickly waved off and responded across the parking lot to a vacant building that the city owns.

Whatcom County Fire District Assistant Fire Chief Ben Boyko told Whatcom News Ferndale Police arrived quickly and were able to extinguish a small debris fire on the concrete landing at the front door of the vacant building.

Boyko said there was little if any damage to the vacant building.

At the time of the dispatch, several city staff and councilmembers were holding a regular council meeting at the city’s annex building several blocks away.
