UPDATED: Nearby: Winter Storm Watch issued for North Cascades and foothills

UPDATE 10/18/19 4pm: The NWS downgraded their Winter Storm Watch to an Advisory with 4 to 8 inches expected from 6am to 6pm Saturday.


The National Weather Service office in Seattle issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning tomorrow, Friday, October 18th through Saturday, October 19th. Heavy snow accumulations of 12- to 18-inches are possible according to today’s alert.

The alert was issued for the North Cascades mountains and valleys of Whatcom and Skagit Counties, including the Mount Baker Ski Area from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon. The snow levels are expected to drop to around 4,000 feet during that time.

Drivers are warned travel could be very difficult on Highway 20 as well as roads near Mount Baker.
