Nearby: Downed power lines close I-5, cause outage in Bellingham

Southbound I-5 south of the Sunset Drive interchange was closed for about 30 minutes tonight due to a downed power line according to Bellingham Fire officials tonight, October 9th.

Puget Sound Energy reported over 5,000 of their customers in Bellingham lost power about 7:40pm tonight. The cause remained under investigation as of 7:45pm.

Washington State Department of Transportation officials report a collision on southbound I-5 was responsible for the downed lines. Bellingham Fire officials reports the lanes were reopened about 8:25pm.

PSE has issued the standard 2-hour estimate for restoring power (10pm) to those impacted in Bellingham. This may be adjusted once more information regarding a cause becomes available.
