LYNDEN, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to a multiple vehicle injury crash with entrapment about 7:40am today, Tuesday, January 25th in the 500 block of Birch Bay-Lynden Road.
Law enforcement personnel were detouring traffic around the crash scene via Berthusen Road and Tromp Road.
North Whatcom Fire and Rescue Fire (NWFR) Chief Jason Van der Veen told Whatcom News it was a 3-vehicle crash with 1 driver needing assistance from firefighters using hydraulic rescue tools to get out of their vehicle. All 3 drivers were transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center; 1 with serious injuries and 2 with non-life-threatening injuries.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Deb Slater told Whatcom News a vehicle traveling westbound on Birch Bay-Lynden Road approaching Berthusen Road crossed the center line, side-swiping an eastbound vehicle which then crashed into another vehicle. Slater said deputies are continuing their investigation.
Other first responder groups on scene with NWFR included Bellingham Fire Department, Whatcom County Fire District 7 and Lynden Fire Department.
The road was expected to be reopened by 10am according to radio reports from the scene.
