BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 6:10am on Wednesday, July 5th, to the area of the intersection of Kellogg Road and Meridian Street due to reports of a crash.
The Washington State Department of Transportation reported all lanes of Meridian in both directions were closed as of 7am with no estimate for reopening.
According to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log reporting system, at least 1 patient was transported from the crash scene by ambulance.
Unconfirmed witness reports said a law enforcement vehicle was involved.
Update 8:40am: WSDOT reported the road had been reopened.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) is investigating the crash. They released some details about the crash about 3pm in a press memo.
According to the WSP press memo, at the time of the crash a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, a 2019 Ford F150 pickup, driven by a 42-year-old Lynden man was southbound on Meridian Street approaching Kellogg Road with its emergency equipment activated.
A 2011 Chevrolet Cruze driven by a 22-year-old Ferndale woman entered the intersection traveling westbound on Kellogg Road when the Ford struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet. Both vehicles ended up in the intersection following the crash.
Both drivers were transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center by emergency personnel.
Both vehicles were considered total losses.
Both drivers were determined to have been wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were determined to have been involved.
The cause remains under investigation.
