8am update
Just returned from driving around the area. Best roads have compact snow and ice where the plows have been able to clear the accumulations. Side streets with snow drifts and steep roads pose the most challenges for drivers. I-5 is relatively clear with areas of compact snow and ice.
6:45am: Good morning. Temperatures are in the low 20s around the Ferndale area under overcast skies with blustery winds from the northeast. Air quality in the area is reported in the GOOD range. Forecast high winds overnight failed to materialize with gusts remaining under 20mph since midnight.

City staff have been working overnight to clear and sand area roads but they advise the roads are treacherous with lots of snow drifts.
Reports are beginning to come in about cars sliding off roads, some into ditches.
