Today’s morning commute – weather – events. Right here in Ferndale.
7:25am: Good morning. It’s a calm and dry morning with temperatures around Ferndale in the mid-50s under overcast skies.
TRAFFIC
The closure of Washington Street to through traffic continues (at least until September). The official detour is via Vista Drive and 3rd Avenue but that route is backed up for blocks during the morning and evening commutes as well as the lunch hour. Since Main Street becomes blocked up with any additional traffic, drivers can consider better alternate routes utilizing north Ferndale roads. Portal Way north from I-5 to Brown Road or Grandview Road from I-5 to Vista Drive are a couple examples. Given the higher speed limits on those routes, it can take the same or less time to reach north Ferndale destinations (e.g. Church Road and Thornton Street neighborhoods).
I-5 roadwork between Ferndale and Blaine in the northbound lanes is continues until about 11am this morning with one lane closed through the work area. Work is scheduled to resume this evening at 7pm and continue until 11am tomorrow. Expect the northbound I-5 off- and on-ramps at Portal Way (exit 263) to be closed as well as a northbound lane closure in the work area.
