This morning, commuters were greeted with a flurry of blue signs along Main Street between I-5 and LaBounty Drive. Many included the American Sign Language sign for “I love you.” They were set up by Michael Thompson of Bellingham who could be seen waving and signing at traffic at the intersection of Main Street and LaBounty.

Thompson provided a flyer to explain the motivation behind the signs. “We are speaking up our boy’s, men’s, fathers’, fatherless and veterans’ voice to lift up from our oppression,” [sic] the flyer stated. “For many years, media love to brain wash saying ‘Female are the victim and male are the monster.’ We are not only a monster. We are the victim too and they also are a monster! [sic]” The flyer continued to say both men and women can work together and support all victims.

Thompson said he works at the National Coalition for Deaf Men (NCDM) and his flyer cited NCDM along with the following agencies as sources for more information.

Washington State Fathers’ Rights Movement
National Coalition for Men
The Men’s Rights Initiative
The Red Pill
Domestic Violence Awareness Australia
