Longtime Ferndale School Board Member Stuart McKay announced at last night’s Ferndale School Board meeting he was resigning his position immediately.
McKay has represented District 2 on the board since 2004. He explained during the meeting his decision is the result of current personal issues.
McKay and his wife own and operate Mckay’s Variety and Antiques at 2036 Main Street since 2012. McKay says on his LinkedIn profile he “grew up in the original McKay’s Variety, a 5-and-dime in Ferndale, operated by my parents.”
This morning the Ferndale School District published a request for candidates for the District 2 position on the School Board.

Click for more informationApplication materials will be available online at http://www.ferndalesd.org, at the administration office located at 6041 Vista Drive, Ferndale, Washington, or by calling 360.383.9207, for those individuals interested in filling the unexpired term of Director District No. 2. Applications will be available beginning Wednesday, June 29. Applications are due back to the administration office no later than 12:00 p.m., Monday, July 25. Upon review of applications a special board meeting will be scheduled to interview the candidates.
Eligible candidates must be a citizen of the United States, be a registered voter in the state of Washington, reside within the boundary of District 2 and not be employed by the district.

Starting at the intersection of Slater Road and Lake Terrell Road, North on Lake Terrell Road to Unick Road, East on Unick Road to Olson Road, South on Olson Road to Lampman Road, East on Lampman Road to Church Road, North on Church Road to Douglas Road, North on Douglas Road to the 2010 Ferndale City Limits, North on City limits to Mountain View Road, West on Mountain View Road to Church Road, North on Church Road to Thornton Street, East on Thornton Street to Newkirk Way, East on Newkirk Way to Portal Way, North on Portal Way to Enterprise Road, North on Enterprise Road to Grandview Road, West on Grandview Road to Olson Road, South on Olson Road to Brown Road, West on Brown Road to School District boundary, counterclockwise following the school district boundary to the extension of Slater Road, East on Slater Road to the point of the beginning.
