MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — A Maple Falls man died Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle Friday, July 2nd, according to Whatcom County Superior Court records.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies and Whatcom County Fire District 14 personnel were dispatched to the 6100 block of Hawthorne Place in Peaceful Valley due to a report of a car versus pedestrian collision on July 2nd about 5:10am.
The victim was transported from the scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. According to the WCSO, he had possible broken ribs, possible broken femur and possible head injuries and was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition.
The suspect driver, identified as Dylan Wolcott, age 26, is reported to have admitted to WCSO deputies at the scene he intentionally hit the victim with a 1993 burgundy Ford Ranger pickup after an argument.
According to Whatcom County Superior Court documents, since the victim’s death, a 1st degree assault charge Wolcott faced has been changed to 2nd degree murder.
As of today, July 8th, Wolcott remained in custody pending being able to post a $500,000 appearance bond.
