Maple Falls man jailed on suspicion of attempted murder

MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office WCSO arrested and booked a Maple Falls man into Whatcom County Jail on Friday, October 6th, following a shots fired incident.

First responders were dispatched to a residence in the 6200 block of Bellwood Drive in Maple Falls about 4:30pm due to multiple reports of shots fired.

According to unconfirmed first responder radio transmissions at the time, WCSO deputies were told by witnesses that a man had been shooting toward a residence with a handgun. There were no reports of any injuries. A detailed description of the man was broadcast.

A perimeter was set up and a K9 unit, drone and Bellingham Police Department armored vehicle responded.

Matthew Alan Bentley, age 37, was booked into the jail about 8:30pm charged with suspicion of 2nd-degree attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and malicious mischief according to jail records.

Bentley has prior felony convictions for controlled substances possession and assault.
