Aid and law enforcement personnel were dispatched about 7:45pm tonight to a location in the area of Bay and Blaine Roads due to a report of a rollover crash. A Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputy that was first to the area reported by radio of finding evidence of a crash but no vehicle or persons.

About the same time, an off-duty Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper at the AM/PM Arco Minimart on Grandview Road called his dispatchers to report a Subaru station wagon parked at the store with extensive body damage according to WSP Trooper Heather Axtman. This information was passed on to What-Comm 911 dispatchers.

It was eventually determined the Subaru was the same vehicle reported to have rolled off the road 5 miles away on Bay Road and the driver was the only occupant and did not require medical attention.

As a result of their investigation, the driver was expected to be arrested for driving under the influence, Axtman told MFN.
