TRAFFIC ALERT: Main Street project to start today – Expect delays

As forewarned, traffic on Main Street is expected to be reduced to a single lane while construction of a new crosswalk goes on at the intersection with Sterling Avenue by the public library. This project was scheduled to begin today.

In addition, Washington Street between 3rd Avenue and Golden Eagle Drive will also be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic as construction continues there again today.

Slater Road was impacted by water over the roadway this morning due to river flooding with the potential for eventually being closed since the river is expected to continue to rise until 6pm today (update: Slater was closed about 7:30am). Main Street is a preferred detour route when Slater Road is flooded so this project will make that option far less attractive.

During the project, which is expected to continue to mid-March, traffic on Main Street will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers alternating the traffic flow from 7am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. In addition, Sterling Avenue will be closed between Guinevere Street and Main Street for the duration of the project to reduce traffic volume through the work zone (see map below).
