Lynden man suspected of walking into neighbor’s house, raping family member

LYNDEN, Wash. — Lynden Police booked Kylen Mark Kleindel, age 43, into the Whatcom County Jail on August 22nd and charged him with suspicion of 1st-degree rape and 1st-degree burglary after investigating reports that he entered a neighbor’s house and assaulted a resident of the house.

According to an affidavit of probable cause to arrest Kleindel filed in Whatcom County Superior Court, he entered the neighbor’s house through an unlocked door prior to the assault. The family member knew him and was not immediately concerned when he entered her bedroom about 1:30am on July 22nd and woke her. She asked if everything was okay and he said it was but then began assaulting her.

Days later, other family members confronted Kleindel after learning of the assault. He reportedly did not deny the accusations.

Lynden Police were contacted on August 20th and began their investigation.

Kleindel made a preliminary appearance in court on August 23rd where prosecutors requested bail be set at $250,000 and the defense asked for bail at $25,000. The court set bail at $100,000 bond or $10,000 cash. He posted $10,000 cash bail that same day and was released from custody. An arraignment is scheduled for August 30th.
