A truck stop proposed to be built on the southwest quadrant of the intersection of Rural Avenue and Slater Road is part of a much larger proposed 160-acre Lummi Nation development called Salish Village.
Today, Lummi Nation council members, alongside tribal youth and tribal elders, dug the first bits of dirt during a groundbreaking ceremony at the location of the proposed truck stop. According to a press release distributed today, the development will include 12 retail fuel pumps, truck stop amenities and a 10,000-square-foot convenience store.
“With the hard work of LIBC staff and the Lummi Commercial Company, we intend to open the doors of the new facility by spring of 2018,” Chairman Timothy Ballew II is quoted as saying in today’s press release.
