About 8:30am this morning, Whatcom County Public Works Ferry Division announced they were taking the Lummi Island ferry, Whatcom Chief, out of service.
An issue with one of the Whatcom Chief’s main engines was the reason for the service interruption between Lummi Island and Gooseberry Point.
Officials say mechanics were enroute and ferry service would be unavailable until further notice.
UPDATE 9:45am – Ferry officials say the Whatcom Chief has been returned to service and will make continuous runs to their lunch break to relieve the backup.
