
LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. — Officials with Whatcom County Public Works announced about 2pm today, July 31st, the Whatcom Chief ferry was unexpectedly out of service due to steering problems.
No estimate was given for when service might be restored. Mechanics were reportedly enroute when the announcement was made.
Update: Officials reported the ferry was back in service as of 3:30pm.
Update: Officials reported suspending service again as of 4:15pm. Again due to steering problems. No estimate given for restoring service. Riders were asked not to wait on the docks awaiting service to resume.
