LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. — Officials with the Whatcom County Public Works Ferry Division announced about 6:45am today, March 8th, they had suspended service of the vehicle ferry, Whatcom Chief, between Gooseberry Point and Lummi Island.

They cited an issue with the Whatcom Chief’s steering system as the reason for the service interruption. No estimate for resuming service was available.

Mechanics were reported to be enroute at the time of the announcement.
