Lummi Island ferry down overnight due to steering problems

After thinking the steering problems had been resolved after a brief shutdown earlier today, July 31st, officials with Whatcom County Public Works announced travelers should expect the outage to continue at least through sometime tomorrow, Sunday, August 1st.

On site mechanics are unable to repair the boat and specialists from Seattle will arrive later tonight to assess and begin repairs. A private vessel is offering passenger service near the ferry dock this evening, Saturday, July 31.

Public Works staff said the private boat operators operating tonight are not affiliated with Public Works.
