LTTE: Levy cancellation provides an opportunity to question “realities”

In view of Covid-19, a lot of “realities” we’ve all been used to are being challenged. I’m hoping that cancelling the Ferndale District Operations Levy is now an opportunity for everyone in the school district to learn more about the impacts of not approving the levy. So when time comes to vote we will pass it.

For what it is worth, perhaps there is another opportunity here for the district, unions, and any other contractual entities to reflect on their contracts and see if there are ways to minimize layoffs, restructure programs, and other actions that will benefit all the stakeholders in our educational system.

Maybe it is time to think outside the box? Would there be benefits from consolidating all of Whatcom’s school districts into a single county wide District? We can at least question the “realities” that we all assume exist.
