Tonight’s Ferndale City Council meeting will be an interesting one. There will be the swearing in of 3 newly elected councilmembers and mayor and then they will consider who, among the applicants, they will vote in to fill a vacant council seat.
The swearing in will start off the meeting followed by recognizing the departing councilmembers. Then the applicants for the vacant council seat will each take a few minutes to introduce themselves to the council and answer any questions. Councilmembers will then excuse themselves to an adjacent jury room where, in executive session (closed to the public) they will discuss the candidates. Once that is done, they will return and reconvene the regular meeting. The six councilmembers will then make their nominations and a vote will be taken to determine who will take the vacant seat. In the event of a tie, the mayor can issue the tie-breaking vote.
The incoming councilmembers are:
- Teresa Taylor
- Rebecca Xczar
- Greg Hansen
The incoming Mayor is Jon Mutchler.
Departing councilmembers are:
- Mel Hansen
- Paul Ingram
- Cathy Watson
The outgoing Mayor is Gary Jensen.
