Little new info about Lake Padden Park shooting, witnesses sought

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police Department (BPD) issued an update via email today, Tuesday, May 16th, regarding a fatal shooting at Lake Padden Park yesterday.

According to the email from BPD Lieutenant Claudia Murphy, while civilians and Bellingham Fire Department personnel performed lifesaving measures, the victim, identified as a 37-year-old man from Mount Vernon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

BPD detectives are investigating the motive for the shooting and are following up on leads. They are also asking for help from the public with gathering any electronic evidence, like photos or videos, taken around the time of the shooting in Lake Padden Park.

First responders were dispatched about 7pm, yesterday, May 15th, to the dog park area in Lake Padden Park due to a report of a patient with a gunshot wound.

Detailed descriptions of suspects seen fleeing the area were broadcast to area law enforcement personnel.
