WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board is reporting new liquor license applications have been submitted for the following Whatcom grocery store locations by 1918 Winter Street Partners, a retail holding company created by C&S Wholesale Grocers. C&S is expected to acquire nearly 600 stores nationwide to be divested by Albertsons and Kroger if and when their merger is approved.
- Safeway – 1275 E Sunset Drive, Bellingham (assumption)
- Haggen – 210 36th Street, Bellingham (new application)
- Haggen – 2900 Woburn Street, Bellingham (new application)
- Haggen – 1815 Main Street, Ferndale (new application)
- Haggen – 1401 12th Street, Bellingham (new application)
- Haggen – 2814 Meridian, Bellingham (new application)
$24.6 billion merger of Kroger and Albertsons continues to be challenged in courts in Colorado and Washington state and by the Federal Trade Commission.
The liquor license applications can take extended time to be approved. Applying now provides readiness in the event the merger gets approved in the near future.
