UPDATE 6:30pm
A work crew from the City of Bellingham is reported to be in route to repair the damaged signal box and restore the signals.
Original story 4:45pm:
A vehicle collided with and disabled the traffic signals on Main Street at the intersection by Samuels and Walgreens (at the unnamed street). The dark intersection should have been treated as a four-way stop but what was witnessed as traffic, several cars at a time, flowed through the intersection without yielding.
Traffic became backed up for blocks until it reached onto the freeway. This continued happening until a Ferndale Police officer working at the accident scene was freed up to be able to direct traffic.
