Neighbors reported seeing Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers stop a vehicle and detain at least one person at gunpoint on northbound I-5 near the Main Street interchange shortly after 6pm today.
According to WSP Sergeant Mark Francis, troopers spotted a car sporting a license plate that had been reported stolen and pulled the car over. After identifying the driver, it was eventually determined he was the person who reported the plate stolen. Unfortunately, the driver was driving around with the other plate still on his car.
Sergeant Francis said the attention the driver received from law enforcement as a result of the license plate confusion revealed a warrant and he was driving while his license was suspended.
Correction: An earlier version of the story alluded to an arrest having been made. That appears to have not been the case according to people reportedly involved.
