September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month and the Ferndale branch of the Whatcom County Library System (WCLS) is celebrating.
It’s easy to sign up for a library card online. But, according to WCLS, “less than half of our community has library cards.”
So, to encourage more library card registrations, the WCLS has undertaken a campaign a la the “ALS ice bucket challenge.”
Called the “Book Brain Challenge,” this campaign looks to spread the word by asking participants to make a video of themselves doing something with a book on their head, include a challenge to two or three friends to do the same and then to post it on social media. And, if they haven’t already, sign up for a library card.
The goal, according to the WCLS, is to get at least one library card into every Whatcom County home.
Ferndale Mayor Jon Mutchler was one of the first to take the challenge.
