
Lummi Police began pursuing the vehicle after observing it moving about 60mph in a 35mph zone.
Saturday, October 8th, around 10:40pm a Lummi Police officer is reported to have seen a vehicle driving at high speed on Lummi Shore Road by Cagey Road. According to radio transmissions by WhatComm dispatch to Whatcom County Sheriff Office deputies, the officer was having trouble catching up to the vehicle and requested assistance.
Over the course of the pursuit, according to a WCSO spokesperson, speeds reached 100mph while the suspect vehicle, a black Volvo XD 60, overtook other traffic as it headed north on Haxton Way.

The driver eventually stopped the vehicle immediately east of Haxton Way on Slater Road. According to witness reports on social media, the driver, Jolene Lynn Leone, age 19, and passenger, Jade Mathew Garza, age 18, were taken into custody at gunpoint.
The WCSO spokesperson said the driver told deputies at the scene her “boyfriend had warrants and could not go to jail.”
Garza was booked for warrants out of Skagit County for failure to appear on the charge of possession of a stolen firearm, 2nd degree unlawful possession of a firearm and no valid operator’s license (criminal). Leone was booked for attempting to elude a police vehicle and reckless driving.
As of the time of this article being written (3:20pm), Garza had been transferred from the Whatcom County Jail to the Skagit County Jail and Leone remained in custody at the Whatcom County Jail.
