For nearly 20 years the name Rick Victor was synonymous with Ferndale Boys & Girls Club athletics. But since Victor’s departure and after a long search, the new name for the Ferndale Clubhouse’s sports programs is Angela Jensen.
Jensen is excited about Ferndale’s strong support for sports and is looking forward to getting even more kids involved. By working together with the Ferndale clubhouse program director, instead of just having “open gym,” they will be teaching more about what kinds of games are available to play and how to play them well. Jensen said, “Instead of simply shooting baskets or kicking balls, they can take their game knowledge out on the playground at recess. That’s where the passion evolves for athletics.”
A membership with the Boys and Girls Club is required to participate in the athletic programs. Jensen noted how many do not take advantage of their memberships to participate in clubhouse programs. So she is looking to change that. Jensen points to her own experiences growing up, “I was an athlete and saw other athletes hanging out only with each other. But I hung out with other kids outside of athletics as well. I think that’s important.”
Jensen is currently accepting registrations for the following fall sports:
