Is this the year you get involved? Candidate filing is this week

This is the week, from Monday, May 14th to Friday, May 18th, for candidates to file for the offices scheduled to appear on this year’s general election ballots.

Persons interested in running for office can visit the Whatcom County auditor’s website for candidate filing fees and other relevant information. Candidates can file online, by mail or in person at either the Whatcom County auditor’s office in Bellingham or the Secretary of State’s office in Olympia (for offices that cross county borders such as state representatives and state senator offices).

Offices scheduled to be on the ballot include (incumbents noted in parenthesis):

US Senator (Maria Cantwell)
1st Congressional District (Suzan DelBene)
2nd Congressional District (Rick Larsen)
42nd Legislative District
– State Senator (Doug Ericksen)
– State Rep. Position 1 (Luanne Van Werven)
– State Rep. Position 2 (Vincent Buys)
Whatcom County
– Prosecuting Attorney (Dave McEachran)
– District Court Judge Position 1 (David Grant)
– District Court Judge Position 2 (Matt Elich)
County Council At Large Position B – (Timothy Ballew II)
Supreme Court
– Justice Position 2 (Susan Owens)
– Justice Position 8 (Steve Gonzalez)
– Justice Position 9 (Sheryl Gordon McCloud)
Court of Appeals (Division 1/District 3) Judge Position 1 (Mary Kay Becker)
