Injuries from dog attack sends owners to hospital

FERNDALE, Wash. — Police and aid crews were dispatched to the 6100 block of Portal Way yesterday just before 8pm due to a report of a dog attack. Ferndale Police were needed to secure a dog in a room in order to safely get 1 of 2 dog attack victims out of their residence.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) Fire Chief Larry Hoffman said aid crews arrived to find one person injured from a dog attack outside the residence and another injured person trapped inside in a bedroom. After Ferndale Police secured the dog in a room, WCFD7 personnel assisted the resident in getting out through a window.

Hoffman said the 2 adults’ injuries were non-life threatening but they required transport to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

Ferndale Police Lieutenant Matt Huffman said the injured people were the dog’s owners and the attack occurred inside their residence. The dog was a pit bull-type and impounded by Whatcom Humane Society (WHS). Any further investigation would be done by them, Huffman said.
