At Wednesday’s Ferndale City Council Finance and Administration Committee meeting, it was decided to further discuss and provide another opportunity for public comment about the increases to sewer usage and new connection fees approved at the last city council meeting.
Other items on the City Council meeting agenda for tonight include,
* It is expected councilmembers will take up appointing a replacement for councilmember Brent Goodrich who retired his council seat at the last meeting. The only candidate for the Goodrich’s seat in the upcoming election, Fred Kennedy, is expected to be appointed. The appointment will require foregoing the council’s rules of procedure which require providing the opportunity for members of the public to apply for the position and a process for selecting an appointee from the applicants be followed.
* Malloy Heights, a proposed residential Planned Unit Development (PUD) north of the Glacier View development on Malloy Avenue, has received approval from the Hearings Examiner. Malloy Heights would contain 192 single family lots on two adjacent parcels totaling almost 40 acres. Councilmembers will be asked to approve the preliminary plat based on City staff’s and the Hearings Examiner’s recommendations.
* Additional funding for parks maintenance will be discussed. Councilmember Rebecca Xczar, council Liaison to the Ferndale Parks, Recreation and Trails Advisory Board, has proposed allocating an addition $15,000 toward repairing damaged park amenities and catching up on deferred maintenance. PRTAB has identified replacing chips and gravel, basketball backboards and aging swing couplings as the most pressing needs. In addition, City of Ferndale Public Works Director Kevin Renz is asking Council to approve deferred maintenance and repairs on the irrigation system at the Conoco Complex, filtration and disinfection at the Riverwalk Fountain and an upgrade the water main in Pioneer Park. $30,000 is estimated to repair the irrigation system at Conoco and estimates have not been provided for the other two requests. $16,000 has been allocated for parks maintenance for 2017.
The City Council meeting will be held today at 6pm at 5694 2nd Avenue in the Council Chambers. The public is encouraged to attend.
