In custody: Man suspected in multiple crimes by multiple Whatcom agencies apprehended

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police Department officials said today, June 13th, Brandon Maurice Thompson, age 28, was in custody in the Whatcom County Jail. On June 8th, BPD asked for the public’s assistance in locating Thompson, a suspect in 31 property, identity and vehicle theft and other crimes.

According to today’s announcement, Thompson was apprehended by Sedro-Woolley Police Department while in a stolen car and taken into custody without incident. He was transferred to BPD custody and booked into Whatcom County Jail charged with suspicion of the following crimes according to jail records.

  • 3 counts of possession of stolen vehicle
  • attempting to elude
  • 3 counts of identity theft
  • 2 counts theft 2nd degree
  • 2nd degree possession of stolen property
  • 2 counts 2nd degree vehicle prowl
  • 2 counts of 3rd degree theft

Thompson has prior felony convictions for burglary, assault, possession of stolen property and theft. He was out of custody after posting bail while awaiting trial in 3 cases in Whatcom County Superior Court on 2 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and 2 counts of possession of a stolen vehicle.

As of June 13th, Thompson remained in custody while awaiting a preliminary appearance in Whatcom County Superior Court.

    (Yawn…..) Ho-hum, another 2-bit habitual criminal from out of town, drawn by Bellingham’s rich pickings and inept justice system. Law enforcement keeps doing their job, and the courts keep letting them down.
