FERNDALE, Wash. — Officials with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced yesterday that work will begin on I-5 Tuesday, May 26th, that will close the left lanes for both southbound and northbound traffic north of the Grandview Road interchange. This work had been previously announced to begin as early as last Monday.

The lane closures are to allow for work to create a bypass lane north of the Grandview Road interchange. The bypass lane will be used to first handle southbound and then northbound traffic while a culvert is replaced under I-5.

From 6am to 4pm, Tuesday, May 26th, through Friday, May 29th, a WSDOT contractor crew will close the left lane in each direction of I-5 in the work area north of Grandview Road. This will be done to build a bypass lane in the median.

It is expected that in early to mid-June, southbound I-5 traffic will be routed through the median bypass lane while crews build the replacement culvert under the southbound lanes. Southbound lanes will reopen and northbound lanes will be routed through the median bypass while replacing the culvert under the northbound lanes in late June.

Closures of Zell Road just north of Willeys Lake Road and the intersection of Grandview Road (SR548) and Portal Way to replace culverts are scheduled for later in the summer.
