House fire on Hatton Place

About 9:40pm tonight, Whatcom County Fire District 7 units responded to a report of a structure fire.

When they arrived, the garage of the 2-story house at Hatton Place and Thornton Street was fully involved.

They were able to knock the fire down within a few minutes.

According to neighbors, the home owner was working in the garage when the fire broke out.

According to WCFD 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko, no one was injured but the home was extensively damaged. There was an initial concern a family member was upstairs. Boyko credited the home owner with doing what he could to keep the fire in check and making sure no one else was in the house.
