Hit-and-run at Custer rest area sends woman to the hospital

FERNDALE, Wash. — A 68-year-old Marysville woman was taken by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center this afternoon after she was struck by a car while standing in the I-5 southbound Custer rest area parking lot.

Aid and law enforcement were dispatched to the rest area today, October 4th, about 3:30pm for a report of a car versus pedestrian collision. According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, the suspect vehicle left the scene after striking the woman.

WSP Trooper Heather Axtman said the woman suffered significant injuries.

Axtman said they are working with information from several witnesses at the scene to identify and locate the suspect. Anyone with information are asked to call the WSP at (360) 654-1200.
