UPDATED: High-speed pursuit ends on Dahlberg Road

A high-speed pursuit of an individual reported to have warrants ended about one block from where another pursuit ended a little more than a month ago.

According to law enforcement radio communications, a little after 10pm tonight the subject was pursued from Blaine and onto I-5 southbound while driving what was reported to be a 1990 Honda Accord. Spike strips were deployed and the subject exited I-5 onto Grandview Road and headed eastbound. Pursuing law enforcement performed a PIT maneuver at the corner of Grandview Road and Dahlberg Road. The vehicle came to rest near Grandview Place.

Law enforcement K-9 assisted in apprehending the subject so they could be taken into custody. Aid was requested to treat the subject for dog bites. The subject was later transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center’s emergency department.

Eladio Ernesto Martinez-Ramos, age 33, was booked into the Whatcom County Jail by Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies for a warrant from the Department of Corrections, attempting to elude a police vehicle, 1st degree assault, reckless endangerment and 1st degree malicious mischief. According to jail records, Martinez-Ramos remains in custody.

According to a report from Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff Jeff Parks,

MARTINEZ-RAMOS was temporarily stopped utilizing a PIT maneuver at the corner of Grandview Rd and Dahlberg Rd.  MARTINEZ-RAMOS regained control and attempted to flee again.  A second deputy attempted to stop the suspect vehicle.  The suspect then accelerated and drove straight towards the first deputy, intentionally ramming the door of his patrol vehicle, narrowly missing the deputy as he re-entered his vehicle.  The suspect’s action caused an estimated $10,000.00 in damage to the patrol vehicle and disabled it from further service.

MARTINEZ-RAMOS came to a stop immediately after the impact with the patrol car and attempted to flee on foot. He was taken into custody by police K-9.  One deputy suffered minor injuries while subduing MARTINEZ-RAMOS.
