Helicopter rescue exercises at Mountain View school campus this evening

Whatcom News stock photo.

Neighbors should not be alarmed to see a helicopter flying low and landing at the vacant Mountain View school campus this evening between 7pm and 9pm. It will be participating in rescue exercises.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) Search and Rescue are scheduled to conduct joint exercises utilizing the NASWI helicopter. Possible simulations include rescue of a person (a life-size dummy is used) stranded on a sand bar and conducting an airlift from an vehicle crash scene.

Joint exercises enable different emergency agencies to train their crews to work together in various scenarios with first-hand involvement.
