While a previous concern over the Nooksack River level rising has passed, recent heavy rains are causing creeks and roadside ditches to spill onto roadways in several locations.

As of 10:45am, Whatcom County Public Works has reported water and debris over the roadway at the following Ferndale area locations.

  • Barr Road – North of Mountain View Road
  • Imhof Road – At City Limits
  • Lake Terrell Road – North of Mountain View Road
  • Lampman Road – West of Haxton
  • North Star Road – North of Mountain View Road
  • North Star Road – North of Aldergrove
  • Ulrich Road – Between South Church and Imhof

Water also continues to be a problem on W Smith Road, between LaBounty Drive and Hovander Road and Portal Way, south of Grandview Road.

UPDATE (11:30am): A fire/aid unit reported via radio that surface water was beginning to encroach on Slater Road east of the Nooksack River bridge where river flooding frequently occurs.

During periods of heavy rainfall, neighbors are encouraged to check storm drains in your neighborhood and keep them clear of debris. This helps minimize the potential for surface water flooding on roads and properties.
