First responders were dispatched about 7pm to the 3300 block of Slater Road (at Elder Road) due to a report of vehicle vs building incident.

A 2-door passenger car had driven nose-first into the west wall of the building. While it did not enter the building it did substantial damage to both the exterior and the interior walls. According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko, the driver was treated and released at the scene for minor injuries and there was only structural damage to the building. No electrical or gas conduits were involved.

MB Motors office is located on the inside of the wall that was struck.

The impact just missed several vent pipes leading from the underground gasoline tanks for the adjacent 96 Gas and Food Mart business.

Boyko said the driver reported the car had had diesel fuel put in the tank by accident and was driving very rough. While pulling up to park along the building, the engine died which in turn disabled the braking function and the car rolled down the slope into the building.
