First responders were dispatched to southbound I-5 at the off-ramp at Portal Way this morning, August 26th, about 6:25am due to a report of a single vehicle rollover crash.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 and Washington State Patrol arrived to find a white Ford Mustang deep in thick blackberry bushes between the off-ramp and the main lanes of I-5. WCFD7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said the driver had already gotten out of the heavily damaged Ford.

There was damage all around vehicle indicating it had rolled end-over-end after striking the end of a guardrail at high speed.

The driver was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries according to Boyko.

A visible trail leads from the point where a vehicle collided with a guardrail to where it ended up in a patch of berry bushes.
