Law enforcement and aid units were dispatched to a 2-vehicle crash on Pacific Highway just south of W Smith Road this afternoon about 4pm.
As of 5:15pm, the road remained blocked as tow truck operators worked to remove the wreckage of the two vehicles, both with heavy front-end damage.
According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Fire Chief Dean Crosswhite, there were 2 occupants in a Chevrolet Express work van and 1 occupant in a 4-door Honda Accord passenger car. Air bags deployed in both vehicles as a result of the crash and, according to Crosswhite, “definitely saved lives.”
2 people, 1 from each vehicle, were transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Law enforcement were still investigating the cause of the crash as of the writing of this story.
