Details are few at the initial posting of this story but a fully involved hay trailer fire has left Portal Way temporarily closed between BROWN Road and Enterprise Road.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said they had been dispatched about 6pm to a report of a hay trailer on fire. It was fully involved when they arrived. The road was closed due to the volume of smoke after much of the hay had been pulled from the trailer and strewn across the road.
The cause of the fire was not determined but overheating of mechanisms on the trailer were suspect. The owner of the trailer was able to tow it away with his own vehicle. Damage appeared limited to the hay and one trailer tire that exploded while firefighters were putting out the fire.
Firefighters were cleaning up the scene about 6:30pm and it was expected the road would be reopened soon after.
